This is a fine looking original Confederate belt buckle. It is the version listed as Plate #009 in the revised edition of Confederate belt Buckles & Plates by Steve Mullinax. This pattern is known to collectors as the "Virginia" pattern of two piece sword belt buckle. Most of this pattern are believed to have been manufactured in the Richmond, Virginia area. The bold C.S. letters on the buckle tongue can be seen from across the room. This one is in fine condition and has no restoration of any kind. It has the look like it must be an early battlefield pick-up. It has the patina but you can see the base metal in spots. When you look closely at the brass, you can see the distinct characteristics when it was and cast at the Confederate manufacturer. This one is beautiful from all angles.
