Sometimes you get a chance at a true piece of American History! This is one of those times. This gun holds a very special place in American history! This is officially known as the U.S. Model 1975 Springfield Musket. These were the first official musket made under the newly formed United States of America. They were the 1st truly standardized as well as the first model of firearm made at the Springfield Armory. The model 1795 is broken down to three major variants with this being the first variant. That makes this one the first of the first. Before the 1799 production of these guns, they were produced without a production date. That means that this gun would have been made between 1795 and 1798. This gun was even made while George Washington was still alive. This one is a beauty! It is in the original flintlock configuration. The lockplate has the rudimentary eagle stamp with the "US" lettering. Behind the hammer, it has the vividly clear "SPRINGFIELD" Armory marking. The mechanics of the lock still work crisply on all positions. The barrel is full-length at 44-3/4ths inches with the gun measuring 60-3/8ths inches in overall size. It is marked on the breech "US" and "P/V" with an eagle head and inside the bore is good with some scaling near the muzzle. The stock of the gun is crafted out of a wonderful piece of American Walnut wood. On the back side of the stock opposite of the lockplate it has the vividly clear script style "US" cartouche. The stock still has fine corners and a wonderful grain to the wood. Underneath the barrel, it has both of the original bell shaped sling swivels. It also has the fine original button type ramrod in the channel. This is a very rare gun in exceptional shape. It is a keeper by anyone's standards.
