Gorgeous Republic of Texas Light Army Coat Button by Scovill TX5
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a button that you don't see offered every day! This is the coat size version of the button that is listed as a TX5 in Albert's button book and as TX202A1 in Tice's button book. Tice states that these buttons were produced to fill in order for the Republic of Texas, which was placed in 1840. These durable buttons were used for quite some time, as I have had one that was excavated in a Civil War campsite. The face of the button has the lone star in the center of the center with the "REPUBLIC OF TEXAS * ARMY *" around the edge. On the reverse of the button it has the maker's Mark of the Waterbury, Connecticut firm of Scovill. The shank is intact and is solid as a rock. This is a gorgeous original coat size Republic of Texas Army coat button in beautiful shape.
