C.S. Marked Confederate Staff Officer's Sword in the Original Scabbard

WOW! This is an amazing piece of Southern history! It is an original Confederate manufactured Staff & Field officer's sword in the original scabbard. This is the version that is believed to have been manufactured by the firm of Louis Froelich of Kenansville, North Carolina. It is patterned similarly to the Richmond made staff officer's sword from Boyle & Gamble. The cast brass hand guard on this sword has a rich patina with a lot of copper in the brass. The basket has the classic "CS" lettering and as with the Kenansville attributed swords, it has the hole above the letters and below the small star. The grip on these swords is more compact than the Richmond counterparts. Theis one has the original wooden core of the grip intact as well as the original leather covering. On the top of the leather, it has the original double twisted brass wire remaining. The pommel cap that holds the sword together has the smooth sides as does the Froelich cavalry sabers. The original blade is full-length at 30 inches. The blades on these swords were never etched. It has a beautiful untouched surface to the blade. Another thing that makes this sword so special is that it is accompanied by the original scabbard. The scabbard is constructed out of leather and brass. It has the leather body that is designed with the top style stitching. The mounts, drag and throat are all original to the scabbard. As you can see, the leather has shrunken just slight so the very tip of the blade comes through the back of the drag. This is a fantastic Confederate staff officer's sword & scabbard. These are much rarer than the officer's swords from Nashville Plow Works or Boyle & Gamble and this one is a beauty!
