Wow! That's what you think when you first see this one. It is the rare Civil War model 1851 pattern shako style military hat. This one was made for a soldier serving in the military from the State of New York. We know this because it has the stamped brass state seal of New York applied to the front of the cap. The original chinstrap is present and is in fine shape. On each side of the chinstrap, it has the pair of small size eagle buttons. One of the buttons is a general service eagle and the other is for an artillery officer. The brim of the hat is made of the tarred leather material and it has a fine look and still has the original border stitched in place. The body of the hat is covered with the pretty blue tone cloth. The front of the hat also has the "E" insignia made of stamped brass that lets us know it woudl have been worn by a soldier in "E" Company. When you turn the cap over you are greeted by the original sweatband. The majority of the time this is missing but not on this beauty. On the top of the inside it has the original gold label on red silk from the manufacturer. This one is made by the famous firm of John Baker in New York City. The remnants of the silk clearly read "John. A. Baker / 162 Fulton St. / New York." Baker was one of the premier makers of uniform and accoutrement during the timeframe just prior to the Civil War. It is always best to call and reserve an item as most of them are unique. We do out best to keep the web-site up-to-date but sometimes items sell out of the shop or at a show and aren't removed immediately. After you place your order and receive confirmation from Shiloh Relics. The item will be held for 7 days for the payment to arrive. If payment is not received within 7 days the item will be placed back for sale. Please call between 9:30 AM and 5:00 PM Central Time. A minimum charge of $10.00 will be added to cover shipping. Items can be shipped UPS or USPS Priority Mail. Tennessee residents must include 9.75% sales tax. All items are 100% GUARANTEED. If for any reason you are unhappy with the relic just return it UNALTERED within 5 days for a refund minus shipping charges and restocking fee of 6%. Layaways can be arranged on items over $100. Layaway terms are; 1/3 down and 1/3 in 30 days with balance due in full in 60 days. Due to time factors there are no refunds or price discounts on layaways.
