Here is an amazing display piece! Especially when you consider that the uniform is almost 200 years old. This is a New York State uniform from the 1830's. It is a beautiful uniform of the style that is referred to as a "Coatee" with the shorter front and the tails in the back. It is constructed using a beautiful red cloth. In person it has a nice red tone with a slight orange tint not the severe tint you see in the images. On the front of the coat it has the three rows of seven buttons with all but one of those buttons being present. They are the coat size silvered 1 piece coat size New York buttons. This one has the eagle perched on the front with the word "EXCELSIOR" around the bottom. The face of the buttons have trace amounts of the original silver The backs have the backmark that is nice and clear "SILVDER'D SURFACE WARRANTED". This is the pattern of button listed in Albert's button book as NY10 and in Tice's button book as NY100a18. Also on the front it has the remnants of the double white stripes that were in alignment with the buttons. It has the very tall collar which is correct for 1830's production. The collar stands 3-1/4th inches tall. On each side of the collar it has the original piping along with three of the smaller 1-piece construction New York eagle buttons. Each sleeve is adorned with the matching and original white piping. Each cuff has the three large coat buttons intact with three of the original four cuff buttons remaining. When you turn the coat around, you see the stylish design of the tails of the coat. Each tail has the hidden pocket still nicely intact. All ten of the New York buttons are intact on the reverse. This is a great looking original uniform that you can tell was used but was well taken care of to survive the almost 200 years since it left the tailor's shop.
