Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a button that you have probably never had the opportunity to own. This is one of the very scarce buttons made for the state of Texas by the firm of C. Rouyer of New Orleans. This is the version listed as TX24 in Albert's button book and asTx252A1 in Tice's button book. The button is beautifully designed with the large beveled five pointed star in the center of the button with the letters "TEXAS" in between the points of the star. This is one of the buttons that was made with gold gilding and it has traces of gold in the protected areas of the face. It has a nice chocolate brown patina. On the back of the button it has the original back and shank intact and has had no restoration to the metal of the button. This is a beautiful excavated Confederate made button from the Lone Star State.
