This is an amazing sword! This is an original mounted officer's sword from about 1800 to the War of 1812 timeframe. It has the very wide blade that is exceptional. The blade measures 30-1/2 inches in length and it has the ornate tri-colored detail work that stretches 24 of those inches. It has the blue and gold detail work in addition to the frosted finish in the panels. The front side of the blade has the floral and geometric patterns with the large golden Union eagle in the center. The Eagle has the upturned wings with the "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner. The Eagle has the arrows of war in one talon and the branch of peace in the other talon. The back side of the blade has the matching thro-color detail work and in the center, it has the panoply of arms including the Liberty Cap with the cross cannon and shield. The guard of the sword is the single branch made of thick silvered brass. The crossguard on the front has the langet with the The Union Eagle with the stars above her. On the back side it has the different detail design. The grip of the sword has the Widmann style pattern on the top and bottom. Each side of the grip has the fluted mother of pearl panels intact. The mother of pearl panels have a very pleasing look. The pommel cap is made of the very large eagle head. The silvered brass has the extra chase work that made the feathers of the eagle really stand out. What makes this sword extra special is that it is accompanied by the original leather and brass scabbard. With the dep curve of the blade it is amazing that the curved leather is still present after all of these years. The leather body of the scabbard has the original mounts and drag intact. The brass pieces still retains some of the original factory silver work. They are each detail engraved and are of a beautiful craftsmanship. If you notice, the throat of the sword has the trimmed out sides to allow the langets of the sword guard seat down on the throat. This sword is nice enough to have a place of honor on any sword collectors wall.
