Nice Excavated .36 Caliber Remington "Teardrop" Pistol Bullets Like M&M#99
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice excavated bullet style known to collectors as the "teardrop" pistol bullet. This is the bullet listed as #99 in McKee & Mason's bullet book and as figure 38a in the Thomas bullet book. For years they have been referred to by collectors as being attributed to "Remington" or Leech & Rigdon" but new information has shown that they were actually made in St. Louis. This would explain why the majority of these bullets are found in the Western theater of the Civil War in Tennessee and Mississippi. It is reported that these were made for the Remington patent .36 caliber revolver but they would fit any of the other .36 caliber pistols. They are very distinctive because of their teardrop shape which is where they get their nickname. These were recovered from camp and battlesites throughout the South. The price quoted is for one original excavated bullet like the ones pictured.
