Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful original musician's pattern sword from the Civil War. On the base of the front of the blade has the inspector marks and maker marks. You can vividly see the production date of 1863. On the bow of the brass hand guard it has the matching inspector initials of "FSS" that shows up clearly on the bow portion of the guard. These are the initials of Frederick S. Strong who approved the sword for military use by the Ordnance Department. You can see the maker marks of the C. Roby Company of West Chelmsford Mass. Roby was the one of the premiere makers of edged weapons for the Union army during the Civil War. The guard, grip and pommel cap are present with an attractive golden tone to the brass. The sword is accompanied by the original leather and brass scabbard. This is a wonderful looking original 1863 dated Musician's sword & scabbard.
