This is a fine piece of identified Civil War history. It is an original pocket testament that was carried by a soldier in the6th & 16th New York Heavy Artillery. We know this because of the inscription on the inside of the Testament. It reads "Cornelius Vanderwerken". The records show that Cornelius Vanderwerken enlisted as a Private on 5/10/1864, he transferred into "I" Co. New York 6th Heavy Artillery. He was Mustered Out on 8/24/1865 at Washington, DC. He also had Civil War service the the New York 16th Heavy Artillery. He transferred out of the 16th on 5/10/1864. The book is the New testament printed in New York by the American Bible Society with the 1864 date. All of the pages appear to be present and complete. The book is accompanied by a brief print-out of the service of the regiment as well as Vanderwerken. This is a nice piece with a solid identification.
