Click on an image to enlarge

This is a fantastic piece of Civil War medical history! It is an original Civil War era traveling amputation medical kit. You can just image the things a piece like this kit would say if it could talk. The box is in excellent untouched original condition. It measures 15-1/4th inches across and is 4-3/4ths inches deep and stands 3 inches tall. When you open the kit up you are greeted by an assortment of scalpels and tools. It has the original brass and cloth tourniquet in the left hand corner. The six blades and picks are present on the right hand side. It has four different size flesh blades and two picks. In the upper section of the kit it has the original red cloth covering. You can tell that each of the spaces were custom made for the tools that are inside. In the top section, it has the two sizes of bone saws with the snippers being lost long ago. If you have ever tried to replace pieces out of a kit you find out quickly that it is almost impossible. The pieces are almost all maker marked by the firm of Horatio Kern of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and have his "H.G. KERN" marking. This is a fantastic set that displays superbly and would be appreciated by any Civil War collector.
