Pardon my French but but this is one cool ass looking gun! This was a longer gun that was trimmed down to a big pistol size. It is a single shot pistol has a 9-3/4ths inch long barrel. The barrel is constructed of an octagonal design. Along the flats of the barrel it has the detailed silver inlays as you see in the images. One appears to have an 1840 production date. It fires a single round ball bullet of a whopping size of .69 caliber. The lockplate is the Miquelet style design.
Another thing that makes this pistol extra cool is the hammer. The hammer is fashioned in the shape of a large lion. The mouth of the lion is the part that actually strikes the nipple. It really makes this one stand out. The stock if the gun is constructed from a single piece of wood trimmed down from a longer weapon and it is now 16-3/4ths inches in overall length.
It has the hand made single brass band holding the barrel onto the stock. The mechanics of the lock still catch on both of the positions. This is a very cool looking pistol with the lion hammer and a detailed silver inlaid barrel.
