1863 Confederate $500 Savings Bond with Secretary Memminger

This is a great looking original Confederate States of America savings bond from 1863. Issued from the Confederate Treasury at Richmond, Virginia it is hand signed and numbered in fine old brown ink and dated March 2nd 1863. This one was issued for $500 and paid 8% interest. In the center of the bond itself it has the likeness of one of the most important men in the Confederate Government, Christopher G. Memminger. He was the Secretary of the Confederate treasury from 1861 till 1864. Under his guidance the Confederate currency was designed and printed. The edges of the top portion have ornate designs with the $500 denominations. In the center of the top it has the palmetto tree which is a nice touch since it was printed in Columbia, South Carolina by Evans & Cogswell. At the bottom of the bond are 7 of the interest coupons remaining. This is the style listed as CR-124 in the Criswell Confederate bond book and as B192 in Ball's Bond Book. They state that there were 58,317 of this pattern of bond issued. This is a nice displaying original Confederate savings bond that will look great when it is nicely framed up on you office or relic room wall.
