Here is a very cool gun! This is a very nice looking British Military flintlock pistol. This is the pattern that is known as a Land Pattern Flintlock Pistol. It is crisply marked on the lock-plate "BARNETT" in front of the hammer. Behind the hammer it has a weak engraved date that appears to be 1761, although the first and last digits are almost illegible. The mechanics of the lockplate are still fully functional in all positions. This is the correct style for our War of 1812 timeframe as well as the European wars known as the Napoleonic Wars. During this timeframe, the British Government began to rely heavily upon the British privately owned gun trade and between 1804 and 1817 a total of 1,827,889 muskets, rifles, carbines, and pistols were manufactured for the Government. This pistol has the 12 inch barrel stamped on the top of the barrel with British Board of Ordnance proof marks, including a {CROWN}/GR/{BROAD ARROW} and {CROSSED SCEPTERS}. It has the correct English regulation brass military fittings for the grip cap, triggerguard and ramrod channel guide. The bottom of the triggerguard is crudely engraved with the rack number B/23. It has the replacement wooden ramrod underneath the barrel. The gun has an overall length of 19-1/2 inches and fires a .67 caliber round ball. It has the 1-piece walnut wood stock with wear and a few repairs to the wood. This is a nice original flintlock pistol dating from the War of 1812 and Napoleonic era. What a great old gun!
