Civil War Production Bullseye Canteen With Philadelphia Maker Mark

This
is a very attractive and affordable original Civil War soldier's
canteen. This is the style referred to by collectors as the "Bullseye"
pattern because of the reinforcement rings that were designed on the
side of the canteen body. The canteen still retains all of the three of
the original strap loops present on the sides of the canteen. At the top
of the canteen it has the original pewter spout intact. You can see a
good bit of the the maker's mark of "*ALBERT DORFF." According to the
Canteen book by Mike O'Donnell it states that Albert Dorff was located
in Philadelphia and had an order in January of 1864 for 75,000 for these
bulls eye canteens for 20 1/2 cents each. It is believe that they were
actually made by the Rohrman firm. This is a nice war date canteen.
