SERIAL #166 Great Looking Remington Beals .44 Caliber Army Revolver
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a quite scarce version of the famous Civil War Remington .44 caliber revolver. This is the earlier production that is known to collectors as the Remington Beals model. According to Flayderman these guns were manufactured in 1861 and 1862. He states that they only made 1,900 in total production with 50%-80% being acquired by the US Government for Civil War military service. . The gun has an attractive dark color with some of the original bluing holding on. Across the top of the barrel it has the Remington manufacturing Mark as well as the Ilion, New York production location. Above this stamping, it reads "BEALS' PATENT SEPT. 14 1858." The gun has all matching serial numbers of 166. That's right! This is the 166th gun they produced in this model. It is one of the lowest serial number that we have encountered on one of these guns. On the grip of the gun it has the original 2 piece Walnut wood grips intact with a very pleasing appearance with honest wear as you see. The mechanics of the gun still function quite well. This is a very attractive gun and is one of the rare early production Civil War Remington .44 caliber Army model revolver.
