Wonderful Excavated Long Blade Confederate D-Guard Bowie Knife
Click on an image to enlarge
What a cool excavated artifact! It is an original excavated Confederate D-Guard bowie knife. This is the classic side knife that was utilized so well by the Confederate soldier. This one is a great fighting size and measures 29-3/4ths inches in overall length with the blade making up 24-1/2 of those inches. When you look closely at the blade, you see that they reused a very early double edged blade. It could possibly be an ancestor's blade that they made the handle for so they could use it. It shows how the Confederates made the most of what they had to work with. It has the nice iron that you can tell has been out of the ground for quite a while. The blade has a really cool look that you see in the images. The iron of the hand guard is in fine shape and has the slightly curved quillion. The handle of the knife would have been made of wood and has long since deteriorated from the years in the ground. The verbal history that accompanied the piece is that it was excavated in Virginia. If you have wanted a really nice excavated Confederate knife then this one is for you. What a great piece from the South!
