Here is a very cool piece that you very seldom see offered for sale. It is an original white buff leather shoulder sling for a sword. This is the version that was made to hold the Non-Commissioned officer's sword and scabbard. These would also fit the Civil War musician's sword. The leather is still pliable and is in wonderful condition. It has the sewn frog style hanger. The leather is still nice and pliable and as you can see it displays quite well. It has the scarce 3 hook shoulder belt plate that also acts to adjust the length of the leather strap. It has all three of the original double twist iron wire hooks intact. Another thing that makes this one special is that it has a nice original N.C.O. Sword. This is a nice looking original Civil War sword & scabbard for the non-commissioned officer. This one has a full-length blade and it has the maker's mark of the firm of Emerson & Silver of Trenton, New Jersey at the base. Emerson made many fine quality edged weapons during the Civil War for the United States government including this one. On the base of the blade front it has the production date of 1863 which is a nice war date for their swords. It has the "DFM" inspector initials on the brass bow of the handguard. These are the initials of Dexter F. Mosman who inspected swords for the U.S. Government. The hand guard, grip and pommel cap are made of brass and they all have a very pleasing medium patina color. On the bow of the hand guard it also has the "DFM" marking. The sword is accompanied by the original metal and brass scabbard. These Emerson N.C.O. swords used a metal and brass construction compared to the leather and brass scabbards others used. This is an attractive Civil War dated N.C.O. Sword by Emerson & Silver with a full-length blade and the original scabbard that you can tell was used but not abused. You get the sword and the shoulder sling.
