From The Book! Scarce Original Leather Civil War Soldier's Haversack

Here is a scarce original Civil War soldiers personal item. This is an authentic soldiers' haversack with full sling. This is the EXACT one that is used for the illustration on page 201 of the Union Edition of the Time-Life Books Echoes of Glory Arms & Equipment of the Union. As you can imagine, the majority of the time they by the soldiers until they fell apart and were thrown away. That is why so very few of them survive today. The body of the bag itself measures about 12 inches by 12 inches in overall size. The leather sling is complete with the square brass length adjuster buckle intact. Thew sling has been put back in place on one side and is hanging on by a good thought on the other side. When you open the haversack up, you are greeted with both of the original internal compartments. As you see, they have the wear that lets you know this one has been used extensively. The outer flap has the cool embossed design in the center of the leather. It has the classic Union shield in the center with the wreath around the shield. This is a great or personal item from the Civil War that displays beautifully from all angles.
