This is an excellent reunion badge from the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic was the veteran's organization made up of Union veterans of the Civil War. This badge is for a soldier from Otis, Massachusetts. This is the badge that has the black color to be worn when it was a time of mourning. The veteran would have worn for funerals of the members. It has the black ribbon with silver lettering that reads "In Memoriam Nichols Post, No. 178 Otis, Mass". This is a beautiful designed reunion badge and would be a lovely addition to any collection. This piece came from the collection of noted collector Don Limpert (1927-2022). Don Limpert was a long-time collector of memorabilia from the veterans of the Civil War with an emphasis on the Grand Army of the Republic, the Union veterans of the Civil War organization. He saw the possibilities of combining his vast collection of GAR memorabilia with an original Grand Army of the Republic post building that was available to purchase in downtown Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He purchased the building in 2012, and the building became the Michigan Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall and Museum. After his passing in 2022, his collection was sold and now is your chance to own a piece of that astounding collection.
