This is a fine piece of history from a Civil War veteran. It is an original reunion ribbon of a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. This was the veteran's organization of the Union veterans of the Civil War. In order to become a member of the organization you had to prove that you served honorably for the United States during the war. This is the GAR US Grant Post No. 349 Ribbon of a Boston, Massachusetts Civil War Veteran. With celluloid on top and original attachment pin on the back. The original makers label is on the back as well, made by Whitehead & Hoag on the back. It measures 2 1/4"w x 9 1/4"h. It is in excellent displaying shape all the way around. This one is very nice and will enhance any collection. This piece came from the collection of noted collector Don Limpert (1927-2022). Don Limpert was a long-time collector of memorabilia from the veterans of the Civil War with an emphasis on the Grand Army of the Republic, the Union veterans of the Civil War organization. He saw the possibilities of combining his vast collection of GAR memorabilia with an original Grand Army of the Republic post building that was available to purchase in downtown Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He purchased the building in 2012, and the building became the Michigan Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall and Museum. After his passing in 2022, his collection was sold and now is your chance to own a piece of that astounding collection.
