Scarce Revolutionary War French 72nd Infantry Button in Fine Condition
Click on an image to enlarge

This is a great little button! It is the 15mm button for the 72nd Infantry regiment. This is the style that is has the large number "72" in the center of the button. They also have the distinctive French style "turret" shank. This one has the original shank intact on the reverse. In Don Troiani's book on Revolutionary War button this is a variant pattern listed as F72.d. This number was not assigned in the period 1776-1791. From 1762-1775 it was assigned to the Foix Regiment (yellow) and 1775-1776 to the Angoumois (see 83rd Regiment) Regiment (yellow). Buttons marked 72 found at Pensacola and Savannah were undoubtably worn by these two regiments which were present at both places. It will enhance any Revolutionary War artifact collection.
