Click on an image to enlarge
This is a beautiful original post Civil War era dark wooden fife. This is a high quality version that measures 17 inches in overall length. It also has the original silver tips on each end of the fife's body. These were designed to protect the fragile wooden ends of the fife from chipping. It is the classic Civil War style that was carried and used by musicians from slightly after the Civil War. The wood has a very pleasing dark color all over. On the side of the wood it has the maker's Mark of "CROSBY / GC". The Crosby company was one of the premier makers of Civil War fifes. The company owned by Walter Crosby was located in Boston as early as 1852 but according to research this version would have been made after 1868. It even has an original pewter "Cheater" to make it easier to play. It will still make a superb display piece for your Civil War era campsite display.
