Nice Looking Authentic .58 Caliber Cartridge Box with US Plate

This is a nice looking piece! It is an original Civil War cartridge box for the .58 caliber rifles. This is the larger size box that would hold the cartridges for the famous .58 caliber Springfield and contract maker made rifles including the model 1855, 1861 and 1863 patterns. It has the beautiful "US" cartridge box plate on the outer flap. The lettering on the boxplate can be seen from across the room. These plates themselves can bring almost $200. When you open up the outer flap you are greeted by the inner flap. The sides of the inner flap are present. The implement compartment is present on the innermost area and that flap is present. On the innermost area has both of the original tins that held the cartridges. Both of the roller buckles are present on the bottom. The bottom of the box has the original brass finial intact as well as half of the original leather closure tab. On the back of the cartridge box it has all four of the belt and shoulder strap loops still present. This is an attractive original .58 caliber Civil War cartridge box that displays well.
