Click on an image to enlarge
This is an original soldier's knapsack from the 1820's to 1830's. This one has the beautiful gold border trim with the "R.G." lettering in the center of the flap. You can tell that this was a wonderfully made piece when it was new. The knapsack itself is constructed of the tarred linen material and is present on the underside of the flap. When you open up the flap, you are greeted by the main body of the knapsack. The cloth display well with some seam separations. On the reverse of the piece, it still retains the original shoulder straps. I have had several of these knapsacks over the years but Very Few of them retains the straps. There is glue residue in the center of the reverse from a previous mounting. It is a piece that will displays well for any collector or collection.
