This is an original 1862 dated $1.00 note from the state of Virginia. In the center of the note is the image of the Goddess Ceres. She was the Roman Goddess of Agriculture. In the lower left hand corner is the image of Governor John Letcher, who served as Governor of the state of Virginia. He was elected in 1859 and served until 1864. The note has nice colors with the black and red inks which make this design stand out well. It is correctly hand signed in ink for the Treasurer and public accountant at the bottom of the note. On the right hand side it has the printed date of October 21st 1862 and on the right hand side it has the capitol location of Richmond, Virginia. There are multiple versions of these notes. One with a May 15th 1862 date and the other has the July 21st 1862 date and this one is the October 21st 1862 marked one. The note is in lightly circulated condition and displays well. It comes in an acid free holder for display and preservation. The overall size of the note measures 7.25 inches by 3 inches. This is an attractive Civil War dated $1.00 bill from the state of Virginia.
