"Georgia" Rev War Era Navy Incised Anchor Coat Button From Savannah
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a cool button. This is a 20mm coat size pewter button. The face of the button has an incised anchor with the dots around the edge. It had an iron shank on the reverse when it was new but it has been lost to the ages. Some folks attribute these buttons as being used by the fledgling navy of the United States. Most of them have been recovered in Georgia which is why some people refer tot hem as being a button for the "Georgia Navy". The verbal history that accompanied this piece is that it was recovered in Savannah, Georgia years ago. As you see, it displays quite well.
