Click on an image to enlarge
What a cool scene on this late Civil War Confederate Bond. This one was is an unsigned and unissued from the Confederate Capitol of Richmond, Virginia. It has the naval battle scene at the top of the bond. The scene depicts the ironclad, the CSS Virginia sinking the USS Cumberland in March of 1862. This bond would have been issued for a hand written amount but never was. On the right hand side, it has the receipt portion of the paper. It measures 17 inches by 9 inches in size. On the back side, it has the printed space where it could have been transferred to a new owner. This is the pattern that is listed as a CR141 in Criswell's Bond Book and as B286 in Ball's Confederate Bond Book. What a wonderful piece of history from the late days of the Confederacy!
