This is a great looking piece of history from the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic or G.A.R. was the organization made up of Union Survivors of the Civil War. They held reunion and erected monuments to the men that fought for the north during the Civil War. This medal was to commemorate the 1928 reunion of the G.A.R. that was held in Denver, Colorado. The top bar has the eagle and cross cannons and reads "Representative" in the center. The ribbon is a faded red, white and blue color with some fraying with a gold ribbon overlay. On top of these two ribbons is a medal of the Moffat Tunnel, with a lower medal of Elbridge L. Hawk Commander in Chief, G.A.R. On the back of the lower medal, it reads "62nd National Encampment G.A.R. Sept. 16-21, 1928 DENVER, Colo.". The original pin is on the reverse of the top bar. This is an excellent badge for any collection. This piece came from the collection of noted collector Don Limpert (1927-2022). Don Limpert was a long-time collector of memorabilia from the veterans of the Civil War with an emphasis on the Grand Army of the Republic, the Union veterans of the Civil War organization. He saw the possibilities of combining his vast collection of GAR memorabilia with an original Grand Army of the Republic post building that was available to purchase in downtown Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He purchased the building in 2012, and the building became the Michigan Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall and Museum. After his passing in 2022, his collection was sold and now is your chance to own a piece of that astounding collection.
