Excavated U.S. Cartridge Box Plate With Battle of Antietam Attribution

This is an original Civil War "US" plate from a soldier's cartridge box. It has the clear "US' letters on the brass face even after all of the years in the ground. on the back of the plate it has the majority of the original lead fill still present. You can see the 1-1/2 of the original iron loops that held the plate onto the box at one time. It has the verbal attribution that it was recovered in Sharpsburg, Maryland which is also known as the Battle of Antietam. This is a nice plate from a famous battle.
