Military Production Matching Numbers Colt .36 Caliber Revolver Made in 1855

This is a very attractive gun! It is the famous model 1851 Colt revolver known as the "Navy" model revolver. What is special about this one is that it is one of the guns that were made for the U.S. military. We know this for a couple of reasons. If you notice it has the small "B" on the top side of the brass backstrap near the frame and also the triggerguard. This is where the gun was approved for military service by the inspector. It also has the "COLTS PATENT" on the frame. This one is in nice "used but not abused" condition. It has a very pleasing gray surface with some salt and pepper here and there. The visible parts have matching production numbers of 41,343 except for the barrel wedge which is an original with another serial number. These serial numbers lets us know that the gun would have been manufactured in 1855 which is correct for production for this military model. The top of the barrel has the one line maker's mark that reads "ADDRESS SAMl COLT NEW-YORK CITY". The guns were manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut with the sales office being in New York City. The cylinder of this gun has a small amount of the scene still present. The scene depicts the naval battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy. The action still works well. The backstrap and triggerguard are in good shape and they each have a beautiful honey tone to the brass. The bottom of the grip has a name that I can't quite make out and an 1862 date. On the handle of the gun it has the original 1-piece walnut wood grips. On the sides of the grips, you can see the outline of the inspector cartouches. These cartouches also let us know that it was made for military use and not for a civilian. This is a solid looking early military Colt that deserves a good home.
