This is a ribbon from the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic was the veteran's organization made up of Union veterans of the Civil War. This G.A.R. ribbon is from Post 317 G.A.R. Memorial Day. The ribbon is red, white and blue in color with some fraying. It has gold lettering which reads "Post No. 317 G.A.R. Memorial Day". The celluloid above the ribbon has the G.A.R. seal with the original pin present on the back with the original makers label. This piece came from the collection of noted collector Don Limpert (1927-2022). Don Limpert was a long-time collector of memorabilia from the veterans of the Civil War with an emphasis on the Grand Army of the Republic, the Union veterans of the Civil War organization. He saw the possibilities of combining his vast collection of GAR memorabilia with an original Grand Army of the Republic post building that was available to purchase in downtown Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He purchased the building in 2012, and the building became the Michigan Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall and Museum. After his passing in 2022, his collection was sold and now is your chance to own a piece of that astounding collection.
