This is an authentic signature of Confederate General Thomas Green (June 8, 1814 - April 12, 1864). Green was born in Amelia County, Virginia on January 8th 1814. He moved to Texas in 1835 and fought in the War for Texas Independence. He was a clerk for the Texas Supreme Court from 1841 until 1861. Green entered the service as Colonel of the 5th Texas Mounted Rifles. He was promoted to Brigadier General on May 20th 1863. He was killed in action at the Battle of Blair's Landing, Louisiana on April 12th 1864. He was struck by a mortar round from a Federal gunboat during the battle. He is buried in Austin, Texas. It is a nice clear signature that was trimmed from a pre-war document and it has been attached to a large piece of paper to make it more durable. The paper measures 3-1/2 inches by 1-1/2 inches in overall size. He signs it "Filed Feb 27 1852 Green". It is a fine original signature that will make a solid addition to any Confederate Civil War collection. A Xerox copy of an original photograph of the General in uniform will accompany the autograph for display purposes.
