Bannerman Style Brass Handled Saber Bayonet
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a nice display piece with a weird story. This is a fine displaying saber style bayonet. These bayonets could be used as a bayonet on the end of the gun or as a short saber, hence the name. I have shown this one to several bayonet experts and they state that this is a composite put together, likely done by one of the firms that sold military surplus like Bannerman or Stokes Kirk. It has a blade that is possibly an imported manufacture. The handle is made of cast brass similar to the ones made by Collins or Ames. The brass handle is pinned in place. The retainer spring is present and functional. The bayonet measures 24-3/4ths inches with the unmarked blade making up 20-1/4th inches in length. The inside diameter of the barrel opening is .90 inches and the lug slot is 1 inch and the lug lead being another 1/2 inch. It displays very well, especially for $99.
