Rare C.S. Made Version of an Excavated South Carolina State Seal Coat Button
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a tough to find version of excavated state seal uniform coat button for the state of South Carolina. It has the palmetto tree on the face of the button with the motto around the side. The motto reads "Animis Opibusque Parati" which translates as "Prepared in mind and Resources." There is light detail and a slight push to the tree that is mentioned for exactness and it is priced accordingly. The original back is present on the reverse but the shank is missing in action. It has back with the depressed channel and no maker mark but a single five pointed star in the channel. This style of button was made by the firm of Wildt & Son of Richmond, Virginia and is quite tough to find. This is the button that is listed as figure SC274b in Tice's button book and SC20 in Albert's button book. This one is in nice excavated shape and will be a fine addition to your collection.
