This is a great looking sword that displays like a several thousand dollar sword. This sword has the traditional Scottish basket hilt of steel. It has the large pommel with pronounced tang button and close fitting guard of bars and sheet pierced with patterns of heart-shapes. The two bar guards curve outwards from the knuckle guard and recurve to connect with the side guards, a small quillon with cross bar terminal at the rear. The shark-skin covered grip retains its brass (copper alloy) wire binding that is flanked on the sides by the single strands or wire. The massive guard is solidly joined tot he 32-1/4th inch blade. One the sides of the blade, you can see the ornate factory etching. It has numerous floral and patriotic designs and the designs include the cipher of Queen Victoria. Her mark helps us to date the sword's manufacture. She became queen on June 28th 1838 and with the construction of the blade this sword would be from the earlier part of her reign. It is a great looking English sword with the classic Scottish style hand guard.
