Click on an image to enlarge
This is an authentic excavated cuff size uniform button for the Marine Corps. On the face of the button it has Marine Corps seal. They look very similar to that of the Civil War navy except that the eagle and anchor are under an arc of stars rather than being encircled by stars. The button has a fine look. The original back and shank is present with the nice, clear Civil War backmark of "SCOVILL.MF'G CO WATERBURY". This is the style listed as MC10av in Albert's button book and as MC218as in Tice's book. The verbal history that accompanied this button is that it was excavated long ago in Vicksburg, Mississippi. It is an original and attractive cuff size Civil War Marine Corps uniform button.
