WONDERFUL! Federal Period Soldier's Cartridge Box with 24 Cartridge Slots
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very attractive piece! It is an original soldier's cartridge box from the first half of the 1800's. Although unmarked it is definitely from that period. The outer flap has a great look with the small brass button adornment. The flap would have been held down by a closure tab but it is partially present and the closure finial are missing. When you open the outer flap it reveals the small implement compartment. On the innermost compartment it has the original wooden block inside. It was designed to hold 24 cartridges. The cartridges would have been the .69 caliber musket ball. On the back of the box it has the two original belt loops. It has the overall size of 8 inches by 2-3/4ths inches by 4inches in overall size. This is a great 1830's era cartridge box that displays as well as any of the boxes out there.
