Here is a cool badge from Michigan. This piece came from the collection of noted collector Don Limpert (1927-2022). Don Limpert was a long-time collector of memorabilia from the veterans of the Civil War with an emphasis on the Grand Army of the Republic, the Union veterans of the Civil War organization. He saw the possibilities of combining his vast collection of GAR memorabilia with an original Grand Army of the Republic post building that was available to purchase in downtown Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He purchased the building in 2012, and the building became the Michigan Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall and Museum. After his passing in 2022, his collection was sold and now is your chance to own a piece of that astounding collection. He had it noted as being a badge honoring Myron G. Hawley. It has the image of Hawley on the celluloid with the golden ribbon and the patriotic top bar. It is in beautiful condition with some wear to the ribbon. The records show that Myron G. Hawley was from Napoleon, Michigan and was 24 years old. He enlisted on 8/9/1862 at Ypsilanti, MI as a Corporal. On 8/19/1862, he mustered into "E" Co. Michigan 17th Infantry. Hawley died on 9/15/1862 from wounds he received on 9/14/1862 at the fierce Battle of South Mountain, Maryland. A printout on his service will accompany the badge.
