Original 6 Inch Barrel .31 Caliber Colt Revolver With 1852 Serial Numbers
Click on an image to enlarge
This is a very fine looking original Civil War 6 inch barrel length version .31 caliber Colt revolver. This is the classic version known to collectors as the model 1849 "pocket" model Colt. It has serial numbers that are all-matching 39,760 which would have been made in 1852. The brass trigger guard and backstrap have a nice look to the brass with a superb amount of the original silver wash from the factory. The mechanics functions well on all positions. The top of the barrel has the double line Samuel Colt maker's mark and New York City location. These guns were manufactured at the Colt factory in Hartford, Connecticut but their sales office was located in New York City. These 6 inch barrel length versions are more desirable than the regular 4 or 5 inch barrel length versions. As you can see, barrel still retains some of the original factory bluing in the protected areas. The Colt's Patent mark is visible on both the frame and also on the cylinder to go along with the barrel markings. As you can see the cylinder still retains a very nice amount of the original stagecoach hold-up scene. The metal on the gun has a smooth and dark gray tone with a pleasing look. The grips on the gun are present with a well used tone to the 1-piece walnut. A good amount of the factory varnish remains on the walnut wood. This is a very attractive original Civil War .31 caliber Colt revolver made just before the Civil War broke out.
