This is an original excavated uniform cuff button from the 1820's or 1830's. This is the version with the small block style letters "US" on the face. This is the general service button from just after the War of 1812 era. It is made of pewter and displays well. The US on the face is still visible. This one is missing the original shank from the reverse of the button and has another shank glued in its place. This piece is a variation of the style listed as GI30av in Albert's button book. This button was found years ago near Mobile, Alabama. This is a nice and authentic "US" Uniform cuff button from a historic location.
