Here is a great display piece. This is an original Civil War albumen size image of a Union artilleryman. The visible part of the image measures 9-1/2 inches by 7-1/2 inches. It shows the full standing view of the soldier and he wears the classic "Shell" style military coat. On his head he wears the Hardee style military hat. On the front of the hat, it has the crossed cannon insignia that lets us know he was serving with the artillery branch of service. The photographer added the red ink along the trim of the coat and hat cord which is also for the artillery branch. It comes in the fine looking period wooden frame that measures 12-1/4th inches by 14-1/4th inches. The glass has a crack along the bottom edge that is mentioned for exactness. On the back, the wood has a modern pencil inscription with the name of Merrit Brown. I looked up the name but didn't find one that served int he artillery. This is a cool image of a Civil War artilleryman.
