This is a great piece of history from the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic or G.A.R. was the organization made up of Union Survivors of the Civil War. They held reunions and erected monuments to the men that fought for the north during the Civil War. This medal was to commemorate the 1929 Encampment G.A.R. June 5-6-7 1929 that was held in Bay City, Michigan. The top bar has the words Bay City, Michigan. The medallion has the marking Delegate, it would have proudly been worn by a soldier from the Department of Michigan in the G.A.R. The original pin is on the reverse of the top bar. The ribbon has gold lettering and is red, white and blue in color with heavy fraying and wear. A previous collector added tape to help hold the ribbon together.
