Here is a piece that you don't see offered every day. This is an original cartridge box with sling that was used for a .69 caliber smoothbore musket. This is the pattern that is known as a Pattern 1861 .69 caliber round ball cartridge box. It has the sewn and riveted belt loops on the reverse of the box with the single straight line sewing to attached the closure tab to the outer flap. The outer flap was made without using a cartridge box plate. When you open it up you see the inner flap as well as the intact implement compartment. When you raise the inner flap you see both of the original cartridge tins. On the bottom of the box it has both of the iron roller buckles as well as the original finial. One thing that makes this box extra special is that it has an original leather shoulder strap still attached. The strap is in fine shape with the fine eagle breastplate on the strap and it looks nice against the dark black color of the strap. There are a couple of spots where the leather has been reinforced to preservation. This is a fine looking original 1861 pattern cartridge box and sling.
