This is a beautiful non-excavated coat size version of the Confederate Staff Officer's coat button. On the face it has the clear droop wing style eagle that denotes serving as a Confederate staff officer. Around the border it has the stars and a lined background. It has the superb gold in the recessed with give it a stunning look all over. This button has the original back intact with shank. It has the correct Civil War backmark of "HT&B MANCHESTER" which is the mark of the Hammond, turner & Bates Company of Manchester, England. This is the style listed as CS36 in Albert's button book and CS210a1 in Tice's button book. This fine button would have been imported through the blockade to be sold by the high quality retailers. This would have adorned the front of a Confederate staff officer's coat that would have been proudly worn by that Confederate soldier. It is in very attractive condition and is a must have for any Civil War Confederate button collection.
