This is a great looking piece of history from the Grand Army of the Republic. The Grand Army of the Republic or G.A.R. was the organization made up of Union Survivors of the Civil War. They held reunions and erected monuments to the men that fought for the north during the Civil War. This medal was to commemorate the 1919 41st Annual Encampment G.A.R. June 18-19-20 that was held in Traverse City, Michigan. The top bar has the words Traverse City in the center. The medallion has the marking Delegate it would have proudly been worn by a soldier from the Department of Michigan in the G.A.R. The original pin is on the reverse of the top bar. The ribbon displays well with some fraying and wear. The tag on the back of the ribbon has the label The Whitehead & Hoag Co. This is an excellent medal for any collection.
