Bohn Made Engraving CDV Image of Union General George B. McClellan
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a fine original Civil War era CDV image of Union General George B. McClellan. The face of the card shows the General in his General uniform. The view is from the chest up and he has a very stately look. These were often sold in quantity to people on the home front that wanted to see what the men they read about in the papers looked like. Just below the image it reads "GEN. McCLELLAN". This is the version that was produced by printing the image from an engraved plate and they are known as a "Engraving." The image is made using a engraving print so they could make more images for a cheaper price. This one has the Washington, D.C. printer marking of the C. Bohn Company and notes that it was engraved by A.B. Walter of Philadelphia. The back of the card is unmarked except for some old collector ink markings. A neat piece for the price!
