Civil War & Earlier Soldier's Belt Buckles in Excavated & Non-E
Buckles
Extremely Rare Excavated Solid Cast U.S. Belt Buckle
Click on an image to enlarge
This is one of the rarest pieces that you will ever get a chance to own. It is an original solid cast U.S. belt buckle on the original black leather belt. You see hundreds of the regular lead filled U.S. buckles on the belts but you never see these offered. This is only one of a handful that we have been able to offer in our 35+ years in the business that we have been offered. It is the version that is listed as figure #509 in O'Donnell's book on belt buckles. He mentions that these were issued to Ohio troops. The buckle is very distinctive because when they cast the plate they have the stippled background on the face. The back of the plate has the almost garden spade style belt hooks, both of which are intact. The keeper hook was missing when it was excavated and we had it restored for display purposes and is the correct long style. This is an extremely rare artifact that we are proud to offer. Don't miss this one!
