Excavated Manuscript Style Confederate Infantry With Alabama Retailer Backmark CS175
Click on an image to enlarge
This is an authentic excavated Civil War Confederate infantry coat button. This is the style that was run through the blockade to be sold to well-to-do Southern soldiers. The neat thing about this button is the backmark. On the back of the button it has the clear "HALFMANN & TAYLOR MONTGOMERY" backmark. This one has the marking still mostly clear and is a neat piece to show your relic collecting friends. Halfmann was a high end retailer in Montgomery that imported and sold many fine military items for Confederate soldiers. The original shank is intact. The face has the large ornate manuscript "I" that denotes the infantry branch of Confederate service. This is the style listed as figure CS175 in Albert's button book and CSI212a2 in Tice's button book. The button has the push that mentioned for exactness and is priced accordingly.
